Our Journey

In 2019 a young woman called Madina Institute, she was desperately searching for an Imam who could help he find spiritual clarity. She told the imam she needed advice, and so he suggested she speak to a female Muslim chaplain. When they spoke, she poured everything out - it was clear that she'd been yearning to tell someone for a long time. She explained

WHY? Because she felt isolation, anxiety, helplessness, and fear living as a Muslim woman in the US, due to the lack of community and sense of belonging.

In times of spiritual crisis how many women pick up their phones and search for female faith leaders to help guide them on their path of healing and clarity?
Not many; due to the lack of resources that are available to Muslim women in the US.

This was a pivotal moment for us at Madina Institute. A moment when we asked ourselves: What can we do? How can we help women on their journey of spirituality, mental health, & self-development in the best way possible?

By the Mercy of Allah in 2021, a small group of diverse women from around the globe worked together to bring to life their vision—a vision to serve other women on their journey of growth & healing!

Our Journey

In 2019 a young woman called Madina Institute, she was desperately searching for an Imam who could help he find spiritual clarity.

She told the imam she needed advice, and so he suggested he speak to a female Muslim chaplain. When they spoke, she poured everything out - it was clear that she'd been yearning to tell someone for a long time. She explained feeling ‘shame, guilt, and hopelessness’ - WHY? Because she regretted spending years in an unlawful relationship. She said she felt heavy from her sins, and went searching desperately for an imam who could help her.

In times of spiritual crisis how many women pick up their phones and "google" the details for an Imam or male figure, in search of guidance or answers?

There are so times when we truly need support & guidance from a woman - a sister in faith.

This was a pivotal moment for us at Madina Institute. A moment when we asked ourselves: What can we do? How can we help women on their journey of spirituality, mental health, & self-development in the best way possible?

The Arabic term ‘rūḥ’ refers to the soul, the spirit, the essence, and the breath of life. This heavenly creation of God is the essence of humanity, with every ruh possessing its own unique capacity. Every struggle, heartbreak, grief, or pain can drag one’s spirit into an abyss of loneliness. And so, Ruh is dedicated to bringing women from across the globe hope in times of suffering and loss, clarity in times of spiritual despair, and guidance on one’s journey of growth & healing.
